Our primary purpose to construct a cold storage was to extend the season of fruit grown on the farm and to serve our customers requirements for post season fruit availability.
Our first refrigerated cold storage was built in 1977. Since then we have expanded five times with the last building completed in 2005. Our present facilities accommodate not only fruit that we grow but also fruit and commodities of several other growers and businesses in the Western New York region.
Our cold storage has a capacity of 130,000 bu. of apples. Included in that is an 84,000 bu fully automated Controlled Atmosphere storage. We manufacture our own nitrogen, and have carbon dioxide scrubbers and venting equipment controlled by a computer. This enables us to make sure our products are kept in an optimum environment for quality and freshness throughout the year. We want ensure that we maintain the best conditions for the fruit during the post season storage.
